Disappointing Check In Experience

Stay Report - 4/13 - 4/14 Location: The best part about the hotel.  For touring Toronto the location is excellent.  It's a block away from Skydome and the CN Tower and two blocks away from the downtown Rail Station which means you can either take an Uber or the UP Express to YYZ.  It's walking distance to Queen Street which has a number of nice restaurants and stores and there's a TTC Station a few blocks away. Hotel: The hotel is an older concrete hulk but it's nice on the inside.  The lobby has a bar and restaurant and a few stores and there's an attached underground parking garage which is accessed through the basement level.  The 3rd floor has an indoor pool and fitness center.   Check In: A very mixed bag.  I was traveling with two of my brothers.  The first is Ambassador and IHG Platinum and he was treated extremely well by the agent and upgraded to a suite on the 26th floor.  The second was just IHG Platinum.  I was checking in with him and our agent was hostile.  We had a reservation for a superior room marked for two people with two beds.  Our agent claimed we had been "upgraded" to a deluxe room with just a King and he claimed there were no rooms with two beds left but he would give us a free cot to make up for it.  I pulled up the IHG app and pointed out the hotel was selling four rooms with two beds.  All of a sudden a room materialized.   Room: Pretty bad.  It overlooked the pool of all things and nothing about it felt luxury.  On the plus side the beds were comfortable, there were outlets next to them and the bathroom was nice.   Other: My brother I was staying with complained about the check in experience on checkout and was given...500 points.  I'm Spire/Ambassador and I ended up wishing I'd been the one who booked the room.  I like the location of the hotel but after the treatment I experienced I'd have second thoughts about coming back.

Hotel located in the heart of downtown Toronto

This hotel is located close to Tourists Attractions, restaurants, hockey hall of Fame, and you can see the CN Tower from your bedroom. Short walk to Rogers Centre, UP Express to the Airport, public transport and "hop on hop off" stops

The class of downtown Toronto

The suite was luxurious with a spectacular view of the Toronto skyline. The restaurant "Azure" has an outstanding menu especially the morning buffet which really hits the spot after a night out in Toronto. The spa and the lobby make you feel like you are in Beverly Hills and the staff treat you like a celebrity. This was our second stay of what will most likely be many

Lacking warmth

The hotel is very well located for the main sites & station. The room & gym was fine, apart from the plumbing at night where the water pressure doesn't seem to flush the toilet properly. The staff seemed to rigidly follow procedures, lacking any real warmth & as a result this is our most disappointing stay in an InterCon anywhere in the world. We are loyal Spire Ambassadors, but if other hotels looked after us like this then we would not pay the extra to treat ourselves to an InterCon level hotel. Our experience on arrival at the airport Crowne Plaza after almost 24 hours travelling was so much warmer by comparison (as has been the case at most local shops & restaurants
