The Cavalcade of Lights - An Incandescence Toronto Tradition

Mark your calendar for a brilliant event happening on November 28th this year, the Cavalcade of Lights happening in downtown Toronto and kicking off the holiday and Christmas season in Canada!

This event is in is 49th year and is marked by the much anticipated tradition of lighting Toronto's official Christmas tree and an explosive display of fireworks in front of the backdrop of the metro's cityscape.

Are you Christmas tree curious? Here are some interesting facts from the official website about the tradition:

  • "The tree needs three days to settle before it can be decorated.
  • It takes two weeks to decorate and string lights on the tree.
  • Countless pieces of large machinery, including a cherry picker, are used to assist the decorating crew in placing each ornament onto the tree.
  • Unlike an indoor tree, Toronto's Christmas tree does not need watering."

What else will you find at this incandescent affair? A super cool DJ dancing and ice skating party at Nathan Phillips Square. Bring your friends, your family and your mittens - and show the city your cutting edge moves!
